Students learn to read and sing the best-loved pizmonim, hear the sound of each maqam, and build the confidence to sing at the Shabbat table and at family celebrations.
Building a repertoire and an ear for the maqamat.
Students expand their repertoire, learn to recognize the weekly maqam, and begin to understand how the melodies of the pizmonim carry into the prayers.
Mastery of the repertoire, ornament, and style.
Advanced students refine vocal technique and ornamentation, learn less familiar pizmonim, and prepare to sing with confidence before the congregation.
Training the next generation of hazzanim.
High school students learn to lead the tefillot in the Syrian tradition: the nusah of the prayers, applying the maqam of the week, and the responsibilities of the shaliah sibbur.
The pre-dawn songs of Aleppo, sung together.
A group open to every age that learns and sings the Baqashot, the cycle of poems that Syrian Jews have sung on winter Shabbat nights for generations.
